Shape Up The Vote is a non-partisan campaign to turn out the vote by activating barbershops and salons as voter engagement hubs in their communities. Shape Up The Vote provides participating barbers and stylists with everything they need to run a non-partisan voter registration and turnout campaign, right from their shop. Voter turnout is highest when it's driven by local voices that people trust, like their barbers or stylists. By helping execute Shape Up the Vote’s campaign playbook in Virginia, you can empower barbers to activate their communities to influence the 2021 gubernatorial election.
Shape Up The Vote is committed to the diversity and representation of our team. We prioritize creating space for diverse leadership internally to understand, respond to, and represent barbers’ and stylists’ needs. Women, people of color, and members of the LBGTQIA+ community are strongly encouraged to apply.
Shape Up The Vote is seeking hard-working, self-motivated individuals to join the Campaign Fellows Program and work alongside the Campaign Director and Field Organizer. Candidates should be entering, currently enrolled or recent graduates from high school, college or graduate school who are looking to gain political experience. Campaign Fellows will learn how to execute a professional campaign plan, digital and communications strategy, and measure and report data. Each fellow should expect to make calls to help build our barber and stylist base.
The Fellowship Program will run through November. Time commitments are flexible, however, we request a minimum and commitment of 10 hours a week.
Fellows will be compensated at $500.00 a month with no benefits.
This job will involve in-person work if a Fellow is based in Virginia. Because of this, we will require proof of vaccination. Along with continued virtual efforts, Shape Up The Vote will safely and appropriately execute and facilitate in-person outreach and organizing activities. Fellows will be expected to engage in safe in-person organizing, community building, persuasion, and mobilization ahead of the November gubernatorial election.
Interested candidates should email firstname.lastname@example.org with their resume, cover letter, and two references to apply. Email subject should be titled SHAPE UP THE VOTE FELLOWSHIP
